5 last minute Valentine’s Day Dress ideas!

Whew! Only a couple of days until Valentine’s Day!

And some of you might still be scrambling to figure out what to wear for the night out!

Don’t worry. 🙂 The Fashion Inquisition has a few quick ideas for you. 😉 We picked out 5 different dresses of varying styles that are available for AMAZON PRIME 2-day shipping. Order today and get it Wednesday! (or obviously, you can use overnight shipping if available.) They’re all wearable for most body types, but regardless, there’s something here for every body type! Let’s get started!

The “Goto” dress: The LBD (little black dress)

This awesome LBD is shown in their black size medium on my friend Kelly. If you’re in a hurry, here’s a link to the dress on Amazon: http://amzn.to/2BowVZu

To give an idea of the fit on this gem, this is their medium size dress (we bought black, but it’s also available in solid plub, and navy/red/black w/white dots). Kelly is a couple months postpartum, and naturally is a little self-conscious (it takes time for our bodies to get back to normal – been there done that, twice.) Her measurements at the time of this shoot were: 44″ chest, 40-41″ waist, 47.5″ hips and she is 5’3″ tall. The material is 92% polyester and 8% spandex, so it’s stretchy and comfortable! The ruching from the waist down is flattering, and hugging the hips to help hide some insecurities you might have. 😉

Ideally, this dress could be worn by hourglass, rosebud, diamond, and pyramid body shapes. Non hippy gals may be able to pull this off, but it could end up looking baggy, especially on you butterflies. When ordering this dress, utilize their size chart provided and order primarily based on chest size. While the material is very stretchy, we found that the “sleeve” area (hem that goes around the arm) was less stretchy in the underarm, preventing the bust from being as expandable as the rest of the dress.

The Vintage Vibe: fit & flare 50s/rockabilly

Ah! The fit & flare! Reminiscent of the 50s and a growing new trend referred to as “rockabilly.” This is their size small on my friend Kelsey. If you’re in a hurry, here’s where to find this print (and many other prints): http://amzn.to/2CeZghP  and here’s the petticoat we used: http://amzn.to/2BnFjbw

To give an idea of fit, this is a size small and Kelsey is quite petite. Her measurements are 32″ chest, 22.5″ waist, and 35″ hips and she is 4′ 11″ tall. Kelsey was worried about this dress being too long for her when we placed the order because of her shorter stature. But as you can see, it worked just fine for her. 🙂 However, the top was a bit big on her (we should have ordered the XS, but were going by many reviewers who claimed these ran small. :/ )The material is 96% cotton and 4% spandex. As such, it is a bit of a stiffer material, crisp, without any give or stretch. It is available in MANY different prints and sizes. Most of the prints come with the skinny belt, but the petticoat is sold separately. The style of the fit & flare is great for practically all body shapes, especially hippy gals since the skirt flares out from the waist allowing ample room for hips.  The boatneck style of the neckline is great for giving the illusion of wider shoulders.

This is a good choice of style for any body type. The neckline and silhouette are most flattering accents for rosebuds, hourglass, and pyramids. It can give shape to a column. Though the neckline broadens the shoulders, a butterfly or heart could still pull this style off (though may look for a scoop neck style fit & flare instead.) When choosing a size, refer to their provided size chart and order per your chest/natural waist as these matter most.

A More Casual Pick

Maybe you’re not the super dressy girl, or you’re looking for a more casual look. This is the size XL on our friend Kelly (see measurements in LBD description) In a hurry? Find this dress here: http://amzn.to/2EDKje6

Let me just say three words before I get started: IT HAS POCKETS! This comfy casual dress has pockets hidden in the side hems! We loved the gorgeous coloring on this piece too! You can dress it up with jewelry and dress shoes, or dress it down with flats and leggings. Whichever you choose, we know you’ll enjoy this one. It’s available in 8 colors, some with more subtle floral on them. They are 95% rayon and 5% spandex, making them stretchy where needed and drape nicely everywhere else. The other cool thing about this print was the added painted on white dots on the flourish parts of the print. It was a nice added detail that lended a bit more of an elegant feel to this casual dress.

This silhouette is primarily marketed towards diamonds, rosebuds, and pyramids. The scoop neck makes it doable for those with wider shoulders though. When ordering, be sure to order by provided measurements to your chest measurement as that is the tightest part of this piece.

Casual Comfy Dress #2

Another comfy casual dress! Kelsey is wearing the XXS (XS tag – read details in the product listing on this). Here’s the link to it, if you can’t wait: http://amzn.to/2ssKnZg

Kelsey loved how she could make this one work year-round for her. It makes a great semi-dressy dress, or casual dress. We tired it with a cardigan and with leggings. When Kelsey left my house she was still wearing this dress, with leggings, and the cardigan, I believe boots too. It was super comfy and soft. It’s 95% polyester and 5% spandex. It’s available in multiple prints and solids. A few of the solids are also available in a wrap style v-neck as well.

This dress is a great cut for many body shapes, hourglass and column in particular. Kelsey herself is a rosebud bordering on hourglass. Scoop necks are great for those wider in the shoulders, while the v-neck style is great for narrower shoulders. When ordering this one, focus on your waist measurement. While the material has spandex in it, it isn’t hugely stretchy.

Red Hot!

So, let me tell you. As soon as I pulled this out of the box, Kelly was snagging it from me to try it on, lol. She came back Saturday while we had more time so we could play with it a bit and snap some pics. As I waited for pics to upload here, I was actually on Amazon ordering myself one! Here’s where to find it for yourself: http://amzn.to/2EYBrh8

This awesome “mini dress” (as it’s labeled) is a versatile pick! Wear it as a dress, or wear it as a shirt! The elastic neckline allows you to wear it up on your shoulders, off shoulders, one shoulder, or even as a strapless top. The top layer hides any insecurities, adds volume to your upper half (great it you’re more bottom heavy in your measurements), and is fun to play with (see Kelly trying to fly in pics, haha!) It’s available in 9 solid colors and various sizes. The material is 95% polyester & 5% spandex, so it’s another super stretchy and comfortable piece.

So this one can be worn by any body shape really, but is definitely a great choice for you ladies that are wider in the hips than the shoulders. It’s also great if you’re self-conscious about your midsection, but still want to feel sexy. When ordering, refer to their provided sizing in the product description details. These are super stretchy so there is definitely some give and the seller makes note of this in their sizing by giving a range of measurements for each size. Focus on your hip or waist measurement (whichever is widest) when deciding. For Kelly, I ordered the XXL because her hips are widest and measure 47.5″. Per their sizing table, the XXL hips range from 44″ to 53″, so I knew this would probably be the most comfortable fit. If you find your measurements are on the cusp of two sizes, consider how you want it to fit. If you’re okay with it hugging your hips/tummy more, then choose the smaller of the two. If you prefer a pretty loose fit, then opt for the larger of the two. If you’re a pyramid or rosebud, or a diamond with pretty narrow shoulders, beware of the bust measurements. If you choose a size where you fall midrange on their sizing table for hips, but for that same size your bust is below the measurements for that size, you may only be able to wear this as an off-the-shoulder style.

So, there you have it! Five different dress ideas for your last minute Valentine’s Day shopping!

We had a blast (obvious from some of the pics) trying out these dresses for you! We hope you discover a love of one of them that works best for you, and in turn find a renewed love of yourself. ❤ Happy Valentine’s Day!
